Booking into RNSH to have your baby?

General Information

The Maternity and Birth Units in the Royal North Shore Hospital Clinical Services Building (CSB) were opened on December 2nd, 2014. The Unit was formerly located in the Douglas Building, before, staff, expecting mothers and babies moved into the new state-of-the-art facilities in the CSB on Westbourne Street.

In the Birth Unit, the birthing rooms have been specially designed to offer a feeling of security and privacy to the birthing woman, with resources such as mats, birth balls, bean-bags and birthing pools available to help make the expectant mums' experience as comfortable as possible. There are nine birthing rooms, all with windows with natural light, ensuites with two types of showers, and day beds. Eight of the rooms have specially designed bathtubs allowing for water births. To make the overall feel of the rooms less clinical, medical equipment is enclosed behind cabinetry.

The Maternity Unit offers 40 beds, comprising both single and shared rooms, all with ensuites. The unit provides several comfortable lounges and education facilities. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit contains 32 cots, offering differing levels of care as needed.
