Myth Busters

Every family & baby is different, these Myth Butsers & thoughts have been shared with us by families.

  • I read every book possible (they were all different); but he hadn't read any of them!.....Anju
  • Birth will be what it will be, I had to just trust my body & rely on everyone who was supporting me.....Sarah
  • Too much emphasis on birth, the emphasis should be on the next 18 years.....Elizabeth
  • I felt lost in the beginning (new dad) until I started to just get in there & do everyday things like getting food & drinks for Samira, cuddling him & taking him for walks.....Josh
  • No night is ever the same. We will have a good night & then the next night he will wake 2 hourly.....Samira
  • Bath time was a lovely time for both of us to connect with our baby. It was great cue that her day was coming to an end (for her night sleep).....Den
  • As a new dad, I wondered what my role was when my partner was breast feeding. I realised there was lots of ways I could be helpful like making sure my partner had plenty of food & drinks, taking her (baby) for a walk in unsettled times & helping her learn to sleep.....Den
  • Everyone tells you that you can 'never spoil a baby'. It is good mantra, but there are things that we did to help her adjust to the outside world. Things that we found helped:
......Having a full feed rather than lots of little feeds
    ...... Wrapping = sleep
...... Space and time to settle.....Lin
  • I quickly realised that breast feeding wasn't just about my nipples & breasts, but it was about my whole body. Things like being in a comfortable position to feed was important.....Maggie
  • Before we had our baby, we didn't think about how much support we might need. it is ok to ask for help.....Shona
  • Before baby I had a busy social & Working life; even though I enjoy being with him, I find it can be quite lonely.....Frances
  • Predicable bedtimes are important. Don't keep baby up to make them sleep longer. It doesn'i work. It is a 'big furphy'!!!.....Mia
  • I was told not to worry about winding & burping, but she enjoyed a big burp after a feed!.....Morgan
  • The hardest days were spending the whole afternoon trying to make her sleep & then finding it was time to feed again; but then realised that going for a walk was better for both of us.....Kate
  • There is no point two of us being tired'; we take it in turns being up night about.....Max
  • The 'witching hour' was the only predictable time of the day!.....Kate
